Inspiring Color Groups

Understanding Color Groups

“Often we are not aware of the effects the visual world has on our senses and our feelings.”

Certain colors can evoke a strong emotional response, and clever use of light can enhance or subdue a mood. So before you decorate, take the time to first consider how you want to feel in the room, and spend some time there before you decide on the final palette.

Purchase paint samples and view the colors on the walls. Take the time to observe how they change from day to night, and lay some fabric over a chair in front of the painted wall to see how the two colors and surfaces react with each other.

For example, in a home office that benefits from lots of natural daylight, you may wish to use a cool sky blue as the main color in order to stimulate clear thinking and a peaceful atmosphere. Yellow is a great color to use in a kitchen, and creates a citrus fresh wake-up, or if a warmer tone is used, a cozy family space.

If you decide on a passionate, hot scheme of red tones for the living room, then consider surfaces and fabrics that will enhance this sensual mood. Choose a high-gloss lipstick color for the woodwork and sumptuous velvets and smooth satins for the upholstery. Low level candlelight is sure to finish this mood off perfectly.

Pinks are fun, lively, positive and feminine.

Reds are passionate, daring, intimate and comforting.
Oranges stimulate creativity and are warming and cozy.
Yellow are welcoming and sunny. Strong yellows are said to help the brain work better.
Greens represent nature and are both tranquil and invigorating as well as restful and balancing.
Blues are connected to the sky and to water, and they are associated with clear thinking and calm, meditative environments.
Violets can be stimulating, while blue violets can be cooling and spiritual.

Interior Design and Decorating for Fireplace Seating Charlotte NC

The fireplace is often the focal point of a living room requiring proper seating arrangement to complement its charm and purpose.

A gracious fireplace is the ideal focal point for a living room. Its architectural presence commands attention, its warmth is a comfort in cooler weather, and it provides a natural anchor for the main seating arrangement. An impressive feature, it also allows for several options when it comes to arranging living room furniture.

Formal Interior Design & Decorating - The most formal arrangement is to place an identical pair of sofas perpendicular to the fireplace. That creates a strong, immediate impression and emphasizes the mantel's role as focal point. To finish the conversation grouping, you might place two chairs facing the fireplace. Add a large area rug, a central coffee table and end tables to complete the scene. If there’s sufficient room, a pair of footstools positioned directly in front of the fireplace would be great. They could be called into service during larger gatherings and will fill the visual void an empty fireplace leaves in the summertime. This classic floor plan works for traditional and contemporary interiors.

Semiformal Interior Design & Decorating - In similar though more casual style, position one sofa perpendicular to the fireplace but arrange a pair of chairs rather than a second sofa opposite. That works well if the chairs are placed between the living and dining room or entrance, as it may be preferable to look toward two chair backs and an interesting end table rather than toward a full sofa back. It's most common to upholster the chairs in a fabric that coordinates with the sofa, rather than match it exactly. To finish the conversation grouping, add two different chairs or perhaps a daybed or bench. The latter option leaves the view to the fireplace unimpeded and provides flexible seating a person can face the mantel or turn his or her back to it. This setup is ideal if your living room is large enough to accommodate two separate seating areas.

Casual Interior Design & Decorating - For an even more casual arrangement, use only a combination of chairs. Have oversize chairs face each other, providing a tête-à-tête area a private conversation between two people. An upholstered ottoman will make it a go to spot for reading and relaxing. If more seating is required, you could have four chairs facing each other, with a bench facing the mantel a flexible arrangement particularly suited to those who love to move living room furniture frequently. You might go for a standard coffee table and choose a taller game or library table. Although the taller table would block the fireplace from view, it would provide a cozy perch near the hearth, an ideal spot for a comfortable dinner or an exciting game of cards.

Interior Home Redesign

Interior Home Redesign

Everyone wants a Home Redesign - at one time or another. But time and budget constraints often have us putting home redesign - on the bottom of the things to do list. If you can't wait to add new life to your homes interior, check out these quick and easy tips that you can put into action right now.

Redesign Your Home - (Toss, Toss, and Toss)
Nothing revives a homes interior space more than digging it out from under a pile of junk. Donate old books and magazines to a hospital, send clothing you haven't worn to a charity or a women's shelter, have a garage sale and toss things that are broken.

Bringing in new life for your Home Redesign -
Use plants they really bring a room to life, collect plants from other rooms in your home and group them together in varying heights - one on a chest, one on side table and one on the floor, for example. Add unlit candles or beautiful blue and white china between them to add interest.

Redesign - with a new Color Palette

Strip old wallpaper, and then go all out with a new color scheme. Like metallic paints and suggests applying them with contrasting colors for walls, doors and moldings; for example, a silver door with black molding and lime or aqua walls if you like to experiment with color; or a copper door with taupe molding and ivory walls. Once you're going to change it, be a little adventurous it's only paint.

Home Redesign - using what you already own

If you have remnants of fabric lying around, put them to good use reupholster cushions or drape them over a sofa arm. You can also use fabric in your home redesign - to embellish cabinets or bookcases. Cut fabric to size, wrap and staple around a thin piece of board, then place it at the back of the cabinet. Adding a small lamp will help spotlight the fabric's color and sheen.

Redesign - your homes bathroom using color combinations

Update and Redesign your bathroom by removing the medicine cabinet and replacing it with a large mirror in a gilt picture frame, and add matching towel bars and even new taps for your sink. Drape fluffy towels in wonderful color combinations like aqua and chocolate. Most importantly, if you don't have an exhaust fan get one, It can eliminate the possibility of mold and mildew.

Redesign - by warming up the homes room

Place an ottoman by the fireplace and top it with a short stack of books or magazines, a teapot and a teacup. This Home Redesign - is cozy and warm.

Home Redesign - Lighting

New lighting not only modernizes a room’s interior in the home but also helps items in a room sparkle and shine. For the children’s rooms, there are great new chrome and glass fixtures that look like trains, planes or helicopters; it could also be fun to hang a sparkly chandelier in the bathroom. If your lighting fixtures are keepers, make sure you're using the proper bulbs and wattage for a successful - home redesign.

Kitchen - Home Redesign -

If you don't want to redesign and makeover the whole kitchen, put in new countertops or change cupboard doors and handles. A chocolate-colored door with long, narrow brushed aluminum handles is really attractive and gives your kitchen - home redesign - a little character.

Redesign - your home - using food
When flowers are scarce in the wintertime go to your refrigerator and pull out colorful fruits, vegetables and place them in a beautiful clear glass bowl. If you're having people over, group breads of different textures, like pumpernickel and raisin, on a nice serving plate and place it with a few pretty dishes and cutlery in the middle of a dining table or on a sideboard. Welcome your guest into your new interior - home redesign.

Furniture placement for your - home redesign -
Create a whole new look by moving around significant pieces of furniture and accessories. Redesign - your room by angling a sofa instead of placing it straight on a wall, or make a conversation area if it doesn't exist put sofas facing each other, or a couple of chairs facing a sofa. Turn the dining table the other way if the space allows. In the bedroom, try moving the bed into the center of a room or under a window. Try these quick tips for your - home redesign.

Rental Home Design

Follow these dos & don'ts for home design when renting

Home is to be pleasant whether you rent or own. You need to love where you live, but there are smart ways to express your home design in a rental knowing that down the road, what you can and cannot take with you is an expense you can't recoup.

Don't hold off buying nice furniture
Don't fill the space with substandard furniture because you plan to own someday, go ahead now and spend money on good quality furniture, pieces you really like. Or when you do buy, you may find yourself having to furnish a whole home because the pieces you bought in your 20s and 30s are falling apart. And that can be stressful.

Do be friendly with your landlord
Maintain a good relationship with your landlord; you may be able to provide input on the rentals home design choices when upgrades are made. You may be able to suggest a new faucet or sink or backsplash tile at a decent price that looks much better. Don't forget, your landlord wants the place to be rentable, too

Don't wallpaper
You don't want to invest in wallpaper, even if your landlord okays it. Wallpaper can be pricey, and you'll likely face the hassle of taking it down before you leave. If you're looking to make a statement, try removable wall decals or wall tattoos, which are available at most home decor stores in a variety of patterns and colors.

Do paint
A $30 gallon of paint creates a powerful mood and color in a space, and it's also an affordable way to inject your own personality into a rental home design. Be prepared to prime your walls before you move out, and get permission before painting anything.

Don't invest big money in structural features
Pouring money into permanent structural elements, including crown molding, hardwood floors, counters, etc., in a rental space simply isn't wise when you are only renting. One exception cheerful gleaming cherry kitchen cabinets, for example, may be worth the price if you are planning on living in the rental for many, many years to come.

Do try less expensive flooring options
Can't stand the dated, looking hall linoleum? There are a number of affordable flooring options perfect for renters. First get written permission from your landlord before starting on any renovations. Carpet tiles provide a simple, comfy underfoot splash of personality. Water impervious woven vinyl floor covering called Bolon, cut to size, is great for bathrooms and kitchens. And so are peel-and-stick tiles, available at most major home improvement stores. Last but not always least is rugs and they can cover up an ugly floor and help ground a room. Most rugs will transfer smoothly to any future living space, too.

Don't invest in built-ins
Every renter is desperate for storage. But built-ins are too costly, and impossible to take with you. You have to think about what can go into a moving truck, so consider open shelving units, freestanding wardrobes or a piece of antique furniture that offers storage.

Do switch out lighting and hardware
Two smart rental home design investments are lighting fixtures and cabinet hardware. Most apartments, homes etc. usually come with generic lights round ceiling fixtures with a screw cap switching them out for a new or reclaimed antique fixture will change the whole look of a room. Put them on a dimmer its great for changing the atmosphere of a room, plus you'll save on your bill. Just hold on to the old fixtures and replace them when you go. The same goes for the old hardware.

Don't give up your personal design style
Express your daring design personality in accessories. Panel curtains are perfect because they move easily into your next place. You will want to avoid window treatments that are measured to fit. And you can't beat the appearance of artwork, which is an investment you can take with you.

Turn your rental home into the home of your dreams.
